1. Differentiate between man-made and natural attractions.

Man-made attraction: Man-made attraction is an important part of tourism. Tourism has many beautiful old houses were destroyed and new buildings were built to give better facility to cate the increasing number of tourists. On the other hand, many countries and local people have realized the importance of old city attractions or the environment. They are involved in the preservation and protection of old traditional craftsmanship, traditional city layout. They have realized that to welcome the tourists they must protect the man-made environment. They learnt a lesson that traditional supports tourism and tourism supports tradition. In many parts of world-old historical palaces, buildings, and cities are used for tourist purposes.

Natural attraction: Natural beauty is the magnet for the tourist but every tourist leaves some impact knowingly or unknowingly. Mass tourism creates a negative impact on natural attractions or the environment. The local people destroyed nature to create the need for tourists. Uncontrolled, unplanned, tourism will leave attraction or environment decay. At the same time, tourism is very helpful to preserve the natural environment or attraction. Tourism brings money and if the money is utilized properly as a prospection or environmental attraction. For example, natural attraction means the gift of God as rivers, mountains, sea, lake, ocean, hill, and jungle, etc.

2. Explain the nature of hospitality.

Ans. The nature of the hospitality industry is that it gives a strong emphasis on people or employees. As it is a service industry, personalized services are necessary, which is not possible by machine. many more industries have introduced mechanisms in their operation for quality and efficiency, but the hospitality industry can not follow this lead. The personalized service can not be mechanized and automated. The human aspect is determining that little extra touch element of the hospitality industry. People are required to understand human needs and expectations and to fulfill them satisfactorily.

3. Discuss about the nature of tourism.

The tourism industry is a complex subject to understand. It is due to the service concept, business of ideology, and non-material object. The basic nature of tourism is tourist-oriented, temporary income generative, purposeful, and entertainment oriented.

i. Tourist and service: Tourism is a service industry, which is composed of those sectors of the economy that are involved in providing services such as accommodation, food, beverage, transportation, and recreation as well as distribution and self-service. The tourism industry has been taken as the term that denoted work and productivity, economic growth, social development, employment income, etc.

ii. The demand of tourism product is very insatiable: It is a very sensitive business. Its demand is influenced by different factors such as season, economy, politics, religion, and other special events in their country on the way and at the destination.

iii. Tourism is a luxurious concept: Tourism product being leisure, pleasure, and comfort, it is the most luxurious concept. As tourism is an economic activity it is related to rich people. So our customers are from the influential society, advance, rich, and intellectual.

iv. Tourism products are perishable (non-storable): A service 'dies' if not sold within a given time. It cannot be stored. If they are not sold on a particular day/time the potential revenue they are supposed to earn on the time/day is lost and cannot be recovered.

4. Define hospitality and classify its sector.

The service industry is popularly known as the Hospitality industry. The hospital, in other words is a service industry, which response to the ever increasing and changing business, social, and leisure needs of the travelling people. The needs may be for the accommodation, food & beverage and other services, while they are away from home.

"Reception and entertainment of guest, visitors, or strangers with liberality and goodwill is hospitality" quotes the Oxford Dictionary.

Its sectors are given below.

i. Private sector: Industries owned by the group of individuals or franchised by the expertise of hospitality management in sole entrepreneurship is called the private sector. Hospitality industries in the private sector include tour operators, transport service provider, tourist guide, information services, entertainment, and leisure products.

ii. Public and Government Sector: Industries owned by the government or public association and sole entrepreneurship is called the public sector. Hospitality industries in public the sector, in Nepal, include planning and development, immigration, custom and exercise, marketing, licensing and regulation, etc.

5. Define hospitality and explain its characteristics.

The service of the industry is popularly known as the Hospitality Industry. The hospital, in other words is a service industry, which response to the ever-increasing and changing business, social, and leisure needs of the travelling people. The needs may be for the accommodation, food & beverage and other services, while they are away from home.

Characteristics of Hospitality

Hospitality service is about creating a sense of well-being for the guests. it is a feeling that their needs are being met and their business is valued. Hospitality service can be characteristics as follows:

i. Intangibility: The customers can not touch, feel, or smell the services being offered. They can simply develop an imaginary picture of what they are going to see at the meeting points.

ii. Inseparability: A person who possesses a particular skill by using equipment to handle a tangible product provides a service, Therefore, service cannot be separated from the person or firm providing it.

iii. Heterogeneity: In hospitality, the service and products are offered to the human simultaneously. The human element is very much involved in providing and rendering services. For e.g., A Restaurant manager who handles their guest very well and offered the service in a good manner but every time the same Restaurant manager may behave differently while handing the guests.  

iv. Perishability: In Hospitality, services cannot be stored because they are perishable.

v. Ownership: When one buys a product, s/he becomes its owner be it a shop, book, food, etc. In the case of a service, you only pay for its use but you never own it.
